Reuben and the Dark

For more than a decade, Reuben and the Dark has become one of Canada s most distinctive voices in modern folk and indie rock, building a catalogue of songs that blur the line between intimate confession and communal anthem. Led by Calgary songwriter Reuben Bullock, the project has earned an international following through its emotionally expansive songwriting, cinematic sound, and live performances that transform audiences into choirs. Raised in the foothills of southern Alberta, Bullock grew up surrounded by wide-open landscapes, long winters, and a family whose love, struggles and resilience would become lifelong sources of inspiration. Before Reuben and the Dark emerged, he spent years writing songs while fronting local bands and working construction jobs, slowly developing the lyrical honesty and emotional depth that would come to define his work. In 2014, the release of the band s debut album Funeral Sky introduced a songwriter capable of pairing deeply personal stories with soaring, cathartic arrangements.
